The time has arrived for football clubs to reinforce in the winter transfer window, and one of the biggest news that surfaced in 2023/2024 thus far is Borussia Dortmund’s intention to bring 23-year-old England forward Jadon Sancho back in Germany from Manchester United. The German Bundesliga 1 team Borussia Dortmund have reportedly opened talks to sign the out-of-favour striker on loan from the 20-time English champions, and the player himself has been welcoming any chances of leaving Manchester United for good, after being exiled by club manager Erik ten Hag.
A Six-Month Sancho Loan Deal Is on the Cards for Borussia Dortmund
Sancho became an unwanted figure at Manchester United when ten Hag left him out of the United squad that faced Arsenal due to his poor training performances, prompting the England forward to retaliate by calling his gaffer a liar and believing that he has been a scapegoat over the Red Devils’ below par performances in the current season. Sancho has since being banned from first team activities at the club by ten Hag, including group trainings and eating sessions, and there is no end to this saga as both parties refused to reconcile on their differences. The public feud gave Borussia Dortmund the room to re-sign their former starboy in Sancho.
According to sources, Borussia Dortmund are in active talks with Manchester United for Sancho over a potential six-month loan deal, that is, the remainder of the 2023/2024 Season. As for the player’s camp, Sancho is more than interested to seal a loan deal back to his former club at Borussia Dortmund, since he is familiar with the club setting and that he wants UEFA Champions League football as well as regular playing time to revive his club career. Should Sancho does rediscover his form in the remaining days in 2023/2024, he might even board the plane for Gareth Southgate’s travelling Three Lions to Germany for the 2024 UEFA European Championship this coming summer.
Borussia Dortmund let Sancho go to Manchester United for £73 million back in the 2021/2022 Season, but the player has not been able to replicate his Borussia Dortmund form at the 13-time English Premier League winners, scoring a mere 12 goals and assisting six times in 82 games in all competitions for the Red Devils. The 23-year-old England striker has previously contributed 50 goals and 64 assists during his 137 matches in four seasons for Borussia Dortmund.
United Terminated Reguilón’s Loan Deal
Apart from Sancho’s potential exit to Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United have also shown the exit door to Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilón, after the Red Devils decided to trigger a break clause in the agreement signed between Spurs and them for the player’s season-long loan deal. The 27-year-old Reguilón was brought into the club as a temporary replacement for United’s regular left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, but since Shaw is currently match-fit again, and that Malacia is edging closer to his return from a long-term injury, the Spanish left-back is no longer needed at the club.
Nonetheless, Reguilón’s return to Tottenham Hotspur may be cut short as both parties are willing to engage in talks that could send the defender to join another club on a loan deal for the rest of the 2023/2024 Season. In regard to this, Borussia Dortmund, who are currently in active discussions with Manchester United over Sancho’s loan deal, have also added Reguilón to their winter transfer window shopping list this month. It is believed that the German outfit would start negotiating a deal with Spurs for the 27-year-old Spanish player Reguilón later this month.
Ramy Bensebaini is the current starting left-back for the fifth-placed German top-flight football side Borussia Dortmund, having played 21 games in all tournaments for the Black and Yellows this 2023/2024 Season thus far.
